Planning and prevention are the two primary keys to safety in the event of an emergency.  Keeping your vehicle equipped with the supplies listed below could make things much easier or even save your life in the event of an emergency.

  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • A warm blanket or two
  • Good quality jumper cables, and learn how to properly use them
  • Fire Extinguisher - minimum 5BC recommended
  • Small first aid kit and manual
  • Maps as appropriate for the area you are in
  • Shovel
  • Cellular Phone - consider a '911 only' phone for emergencies
  • For longer trips, and as appropriate for weather conditions, also consider Bottled Water and Non-perishable, high energy foods
  • In cold weather, make sure that you have clothing adequate for the weather, or consider keeping a warm coat, boots, hat and gloves in your vehicle.

Remember, you could be stranded at any time, and it usually happens when you least expect it!  If you take a few precautions now, you stand a much better chance of weathering an emergency with no significant damage and a minumum of inconvenience.
